Turret Creep referees to an offensive strategy that players employ when clearing biter nests/spawners in which players place turrets around target biter nests from afar. This prevents biters from aggroing on the player and is a safe, if controversial, way to clear nests.
Technique
Turret Creep strategies frequently make use of laser turrets as they do not require any outside input and can fire for a short time without any electrical connection, although high voltage power poles are sometimes used to power them for longer periods of time.
Because there is a reach limit that prevents players from playing turrets from afar, players will frequently run in using armor and quickly place turrets to kill the enemies and will then retreat; thus letting the turrets creep forwards. This practice gives turret creep it's name.
Some players who use mods that allow them to place items at a greater distance will stand outside of aggro range and will let the turrets kill all the enemies and spawners before the player moves in to collect the loot.
Debate
There are a variety of opinions about whether turret creep is a legitimate way to clear nests. On the one hand, it poses no risk to the player; so some argue that it shouldn't be used because it removes the challenge from the fighting portion of the game. On the other, it is a strategy that the game allows and represents a far easier way to acquire alien artifacts for use in production.
